Learning Dutch to English (or French)
Hey I'm new on Duolinguo and
I've Checked a couple of weeks ago and I thought I saw that they will be a course to learn Dutch from English soon but now I only find a learn English from Dutch. And can't find the class that goes the other way around.
So I wanted to know if I missed something or miss understood something.
Anyway if it's happening soon Yippiie and if it's not it's surely a combo that would be amazing to have.
Right now it's only possible to learn English, Spanish, Portuguese, German and French. There is a course for Dutch speakers to learn English and, from what I've heard, the reverse course (Dutch for English speakers) should be started in about 3 or 4 weeks. I don't know how long will it take to be completed, but giving that there is already a English from Dutch course it shouldn't take long.
A very similar question was asked last week at the forum-part for the 'English for the Dutch'-beta: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/1700784
Dutch moderator Lavinae responded they'd probably be able to start making the reverse course near the end of February; after which ideally (barring any unforseen situations) the beta might possibly be ready near the end of March.
However do note there is quite a lot to learn when you (using your knowledge of English) try to reverse engineer the current English-for-Dutch course - and try to learn Dutch that way. In case you're impatient. And if you'd run in any lingual problems along the way, just give a yell at the course's discussion page :)
Thanks for the info I've tried the reverse and it's working quite OK. I already had some classical class in dutch so it helps and I improve my English spelling. Can't wait though for the English to dutch!
What you can do is use the English for Dutch speakers course to learn Dutch. I'm trying to do it for Hungarian.
Does it work well? I mean, there are no voices and no new concepts are explained.
I'm doing it that way and it works, you don't have listening in Dutch, but as English is not my mother tongue anyway it's a good way for me to practice English at the same time. But really looking forward for the learn Dutch from English ;)
