besides being the motto of the greek nation this phrase was also used by bulgaria during the april uprising and as well as the national motto of uruguay.

The phrase "give me liberty or give me death" was also used during the American Revolution.

Interesting that Greece used a similar phrase.

remember the Greek struggle for liberty didn't begin (or end) in the 1820s. It's not as if they stole the phrase from Patrick Henry.

Nobody said they stole it. Just that the similarity is interesting.

Liberté ou la mort ! was used by French revolutionaries in the 1790's.

We know what death is, but what is "liberty"?

"freedom" is a better translation.

It is one of the accepted versions. "Give me liberty, or give me death!" is a quotation attributed to Patrick Henry 1775.

Tidbit: "Live Free or Die" represents the motto found on vehicle license plates in U.S. state of New Hampshire. ("Eλευθερος η πeθανε!")

The sounds were difficult for me to distinguish on both speeds. It could be me. Just saying.
