RPGs in Russian?

I was looking for some RPG-like game in Russian. As a matter of fact, a lot of game genres would satisfy me, to exemplify:

Age of Empires Civilization Runescape Travian / OGame (these ones have a Russian version) Dungeon Crawl (and other roguelikes) ...

Is there anything you could recommend the community about this?

Besides enjoying this kind of game, I think you can learn a lot by doing quests and interacting with the world, and even more if you try to interact with native players (this is a big part of how I learned English).

By the way, I have been playing Pokémon (Fire/Red) in Russian, and it can be interesting too.

If it was not for the fact that you are looking for a medieval setting, I would recommend the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series of games (FPS with a strong RPG flavour). The background conversations are in Russian even if you use the English version.

Or how about the Witcher? They have the advantage that it is easy to switch between English, Polish and Russian versions - and you can even have the text in one language and the voicing in another, if you wish.

But for multiplayer online? Sorry, no suggestions.

The Witcher is a great game series to improve your language skills. And the Polish developers really care for the Russian market. Unfortunately, my Russian wasn't good enough the last time, so that I had to switch to another language. (I plan to give it a new try.)

RPGs are great to learn languages. I learnt at least as much French by playing Morrowind as during my simultaneous preparatory French course at a French university (though less than in the real courses).

In any case, playing a computer game, which requires a good amount of communication with other players or NPCs, is infinitely more effective than sitting in front of your TV screen and passively watching a movie.

Evil Islands (Проклятые земли): fantasy / medieval, lengthy, impossible to complete on the first try. But it's quite old and I'm not sure if it's possible to combine Russian text and English voice or vice versa.

I forgot perhaps the most obvious choice of all:Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light. As to genre, they are post-apocalyptic survival FPS (which is why I didn't immediately think of them). But they are basically beautifully illustrated, rather linear games, based quite closely on the first novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky and set in (or rather under) Moscow.

They are made by a Ukrainian company in Russian - and again, you can easily switch between Russian and English voices.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. This game is not for the light-hearted.

Actually, I think most of AAA games are translated to Russian to some extent. At least you can try Skyrim, Dragon Age or Pillars of Eternity. Even Gothic has a decent Russian translation. If you want Russian games so here you go:

I hope it will help.

If you're looking for something developed in Russia, I can only remember the Konung series (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konung:_Legends_of_the_North; though, iirc, I only liked the second game) and games by Ice-Pick Lodge (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice-Pick_Lodge; I haven't played their games, but I understand that people like them). Otherwise, popular games like the Dragon Age series almost always get at least Russian subtitles.

I agree with EirieV - "Dragon Age Origin" and "Dragon Age Awakening" may be also a good choice because of lots of recorded in Russian dialogues, which can be combined with Russian or English texts in launch settings. I heard that Steam version hasn't Russian localization, but pirate versions (for example, by Механики R.G.) actually has it.

An addition to mosfet07's post: pay attention to two other games, presented in his link to Evil Islands - "Аллоды: печать тайны" and "Аллоды 2: Повелитель Душ". These are also brilliant RPGs from nineties with a pile of vast well-written dialogues (unfortunately, without an ability to choose an answer), but almost without any recorded speech.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Мор. Утопия (2005). Old game with old graphics by Ice-Pick Lodge, that is getting a remake right now and an HD version with improved translation and effects has already been released. A cult classic.

It's a survival, kinda philosophical game, with very rich world-building and atmosphere, where your objective is to defeat a plague that seems to be conscious, set in a very strange and unprepared town in the middle of the Steppe (many people feel like it's set in Siberia). You enter a deeply superstitious, seemingly backwards town, where Steppe beliefs and magics are very present, and yet there's a whole different side that seeks to build modern and impossible marvels, achieve true immortality and an Utopia. You also eventually need to take a side, or maybe you'll find a way to save everything, or perhaps destroy everything?

You can play as three characters; an outsider and doctor from the Capital, whose objective is to defeat death, a local man from a local clan whose objective is to reclaim his position in the Kin (the steppe society) as a spiritual leader and inheritance, and finally, a miracle-performing girl whose humanity is dubious.

I can't make it justice with a single commentary.
