I was going to try to write that in Hungarian, when I realized that (1) I don't know how to say "might be," and (2) English puns rarely work in other languages. :)

I've been surprised how many English metaphors (not really a pun there) have surprisingly close Hungarian versions. Hungarian does seem to like both metaphor and pun, however!
So "menni a macskákhoz" actually means the same thing as the English "going to the dogs?"
(And you're right, it's not a pun.)
That looks more like "going to the cats"!
