Is there something wrong with, "Mi nem megyünk a strandra; esik az eső" as a translation for this sentence?

Nothing wrong. It emphasizes "Mi", as opposed to other people.

Why is the recommended sentence missing 'a'? It just says 'strandra'

Without the "a", it is an indefinite "strand", just any "strand".

Javítsák ki a hibát! Nem fogadja el, hogy "a strandra".

I would say that this is the translation of the sentence: We do not go to beach... Sounds awful, like the Hungarian translation: Nem megyünk strandra. In the colloquial language the Hungarians say: Nem megyünk a strandra, mert esik az eső. This is due to the fact that most people go to one specific beach (a strandra), not just to any beach (strandra).
