Can someone help explain the ways the 'bằng' is used? Is it specific for speaking in languages?

'bằng' is essentially "by (using)" such as for example: Writing a book by hand: " viết một cuốn sách bằng tay " Traveling by car: "Di bằng xe"

hope that helps/makes sense.

How would someone in Vietnamese say couch potatoe? Its very complicated!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/mthrie

you would just say they're lazy essentially -- we don't really have the saying "couch potato". The viet word for lazy is "lười biếng" but 'to be lazy' is "làm biếng"
