Yes, the letter in Vietnamese is Latin, also nearly chinese because China's near Vietnam. It learns very easy but the Vietnamese course in duolingo in beta....Now Vietnamese is very difficult to learn.

Vietnamese is more similar to Chinese than a lot of Western languages, but nowhere near as similar as the different dialects of Chinese are to each other. It is probably less similar to Chinese than you may think it is from the sound alone.

Like Chinese, it is a tonal language. The tones are somewhat different but I find that if you already know one tonal language, this element of it will probably be easier for you.

The consonant and vowel sounds are very hard for most English speakers to learn. Some people also have a lot of problems with the tones, but personally, I find the tones easier than the vowels and consonants. I know some Mandarin Chinese and my pronunciation in that is pretty good, and I still have real trouble with a lot of the Vietnamese sounds. The pronunciation is very different from any other language I have learned before.
