Wording in the introduction to Greek
When you go and select Greek, the first sentence you'll see is that Greek is one of the oldest languages on Earth (an outright lie, but let's skip that). Other sentences also imply that the course teaches, for example, the language in which the Odyssey was written, which is also false. It's a bit stupid to be so misleading as to pretend that with a knowledge of Modern Greek you'll be able to understand Ancient Greek - a subject taught in most Greek schools and hated by many.
Yes, you are right. But as you go further and further to the Greek tree you can notice that many words in English are coming from Greek. It is a IE languages after all. The alphabet is used in Maths and Physics mainly as symbols so many people are familiar with. If you are religious Christian you could approach the language of the Gospels, Greek Koene, a simplified Ancient Greek version, used as a lingua franca in the Eastern Mediterranean in the times of Jesus Christ.
Xenophon Zolotas, a famous banker and Prime Minister of Greece for a short period in 1990 delivered some speeches to the International Bank in English using Greek words only, and these speeches are very famous to the Greek-English speaking:

Even these speeches are quite scientific and specialized, they could be understood by his English-speaking audience.
So Greek is not an exotic (Greek word) and strange language.
Ancient Greek are not taught the right way, that why, I think, is hated by many. It is a consistent, "strong" language, capable to express almost all human thoughts, even the deeper ones in Philosophy as she really did.
