Kaum = NO changes? I translated as "Otherwise there were scarcely any changes." Is that wrong?

I think your solution is better than "no changes". Probably I would use "Otherwise there were few changes."

Now, that's odd. 'kaum Veränderungen' implies some, still barely any changes, so your translation should be fine, unlike duo's translation which doesn't even consider any additional changes.
