Why not "hold the window closed"? Imagine that it is a casement window with a sprung latch--and you want to hold it closed against the rain, or until someone can make the latch work. Doesn't "hold" work then?


"Hold the window closed"? Is that really a correct sentence? I'd rather say "keep it closed". The German "halten" in this case has nothing to do with "to hold".


And that version is accepted now as a wrong answer....thanks to you.
