Russian is the first language I want to be proficient in...
I want to learn and speak russian fluently and eventually move to russian, Im bad at learning new languages. I memorized the Cyrillic alphabet but the words wont stick....Help....
Say them out loud. String basic sentences. Review everything you've learned here on Duolingo every day until you can move on. Keep going, you've got this!
Sometimes, for me, I had to just recognize the rhythm of a word. In Russian, "Welcome" is Добро Пожаловать. To memorize it, I just had to remember the way the word Пожаловать rolled off of my tongue.
Also, mnemonic devices help. I could not remember the word Собака until I realized that this word, the word for dog, sounds a lot like "Chewbacca", which is a fictional character based off of a dog.
Just keep going over your vocabulary. Try practicing by inserting words into certain phrases. "У меня есть ...." Insert a Russian word there. Practice by having Russian conversations with yourself in order to determine what words you need to learn.
Memrise is a useful tool to teach yourself vocabulary. They have courses for most Duolingo trees. I have used it a little bit (when I started the Polish tree), but I usually find that retaining vocabulary gets a lot easier very soon when I get a little further into the language.
It takes time. Do duolingo with the sound on and repeat the words back as you type them.
Use other websites, there are a lot. As well as apps. Read Russian news and listen to music/radio/videos to get you familiar with the sound and the look of the language even though you will have No idea what is going on.
