Llocano: A new addition to the guide?
I was just doing some research on what languages beside English are highly spoken in the US, and I came across a language spoken by Filipinos: Ilocano or Iloko (native speaker to correct me if this is not the correct term). It is spoken by about 10 million people in the Philippines (mainly Luzon). I think it would be a great addition to the guide. Information can be found here: http://www.omniglot.com/writing/ilocano.htm. Native speakers, please contribute! Let's get another Malayo-Polynesian language on here. (Tagalog does fit in this category, right?)
Thanks Lrtward. Looks like the downvoters are in action this morning, eh? Perhaps I should change the title...
I wouldn't worry about votes. People will find it if it's in the guide. But it would be helpful to put "Ilocano" in the title. Thank you!
This would be really cool. I wanna learn Tagalog and Cebuano (I was born in Cebu but now I live in Seattle), and Ilocano would be cool to learn some day along with it. I've got a language schedule and it's not exactly on it but I feel like I should to get more in touch with my Filipino culture. I don't even know if my relatives speak it, but my relatives do speak Tagalog and Cebuano (however they have tried teaching me and I haven't really learned much still). So I dunno, I would love more Filipino languages to be available, it's sad to have friends who don't know much about their own culture and that goes for myself too, I wish these things were more accessible. So please Duolingo, do something with the Filipino Languages! Lol
That's very interesting! Thank you for sharing. I would like to learn more about Cebuano, but I have a schedule too, and until April I've got room for nothing but French.
I am sem-fluent in Ilocano and would like to contribute to Tagalog, too. But it seems that updates (for Tagalog) are kind of old? Is it in progress?
Have you applied to contribute? Please do so! Exciting! Or maybe you could start lessons on the forums!
Yes! I've applied now for Ilocano and Tagalog course for English speakers :)
I have seen a Tagalog one in the drop-down menu, ngem awan met makitak nga Ilocano.
My parents are Filipino but I grew up knowing little Ilocano (from my mom's side)> This will be a great addition to Duolingo!!!!
