I think 'end IN' works better in English.

I am curious, but is ηττα used in modern greek

Yes, I can't think of another word for it actually. Χάσιμο and χασούρα have different connotations.

The battle ended WITH their defeat

That is also an accepted translation.

Good! Considering it is the correct one....

Would ήττα also be used for "loss," as in wins and losses?

Νο, "ήττα" means "defeat" as in you "were beaten".
