(Spanish) Pronunciation Issues

Some of the words, when spoken, sound extremely similar. For example, in Spanish, both para and paga sound the same, and el and es sound the same--both of which caused me to lose hearts on tests.

Yes, this is a problem... Even if colloquially they say 'jo' and 'yo' in some Spanish speaking countries (settled in another thread), it is not appropriate for a beginner to have this kind of variation in speech at such a stage. It is very difficult sometimes to distinguish between 'b' and 'v' sometimes in these exercises. Sorry your post got voted down, though.
