Esperanto Memes

Inspired by my favorite Esperanto trickster, I thought I'd make some Esperanto memes. The intended audience is people who don't know much (if anything) about Esperanto. They are comedic takes on typical Esperanto criticisms or misconceptions. Feel free to add your own!

(Let's see if I can post this correctly)

Wow, I just learned a new word!

Though I've haven't learned -ujo. What does it mean?

November 5, 2016

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Kliphph

-ujo is used as a "container"/ "boxlike object"/ "recepticle" suffix, so Esperantujo would be a container or place containing Esperantists, or likewise any nation can be an "ujo" for its' citizens. As a non location based suffix, compare with "monujo", which is a wallet (money container).

Countries ending with -io can also be spelled with -ujo (e.g. Germanio and Germanujo are both correct). It's in the 'Countries' lesson!

Oh! Of course. So it's Esperantoland! I'm used to telling people I visit Esperantonia the sixth Monday of every month ;)

I love watching the upvotes wax and wane. I can't imagine who's grumpy enough to downvote humor :)

Thanks to everyone for sharing their own. Please share these on social media if you can.

For articles containing many humorous Esperanto memes (with the target audience being Esperantists) I would suggest checking out:

Here are some directed at a non Esperantist target audience:

Maybe somebody can help me out here with terminology. Are these considered "Dank Memes"?

Yes, well, those of us of Esperanto descent sometimes lack a sense of humor. That's why we're often accused of having no culture. We're a sober bunch.

There is also a new "meme" styled Esperanto for beginners Twitter account that someone posted about in the Lernu forums the other day. I wonder if this is Evildea's new Twitter account (kiel disvastigi malica interreta famo).
