"Đàn" is a classifier used for groups of animals. So instead of remembering a certain word for each animal like in English, you can use "đàn" for every one. For another example, "đàn sói" literally translates to a "group of wolves", but in english we would say a "pack of wolves"

No no, "Đàn" is a kind of instrument music. Ex: đàn ghita, đàn piano, đàn organ... :))
