Why is "Már A hétvége van" incorrect?

It sounds just as weird as "It is already the Thursday." in English.

So does "it is already the weekend", which is what Duo wanted me to translate. I think "már a hétvége van" should be acceptable

No, it doesn't sound that weird, at the end of the day, it has a meaning that "már hétvége van" expresses, without "a".

In English we would not say the Thursday as you rightly say ,but we would usually say" THE weekend ". And the word THE is in the question ?

But you are translating to natural Hungarian - not what the words are in English.
