i think you should accept "at" as the translation to "nal"/"nel" especially where it sounds logical. "folyonal" absolutely can be "at the river". or are you telling me there is any other way to say "at the river"?

But to give you a simple answer, "csirke" (chicken) is usually the generic term, while "tyúk" (hen) is usually the adult female bird.
