J'ai fini mon arbre français.

I finished my French tree today. I've been working on it since the end of December.

Every morning I did a new lesson, and strengthened another task. If I had time during the day, I would usually earn about 50 points, but never 200.

During this year I watched a complete season of Parlez-Moi, I listened to hours of Quebec pop music, watched several French movies with the subtitles on, read half of Genesis, and read Le Petit Prince.

I have studied French decades ago in grade school, high school and in college, and was a solid D student. I was surprised at how much more fun it is to learn with Duolingo. I may have learned many more French words this last year than I did in all my schooling.

I still want to visit Paris, read Harry Potter in French, watch more French movies, and order in French at a Quebec McDonalds.

I would like to thank all those here that have encouraged me along the way. Especially Evelyn Odelia, Barrett Chapin, [{(Stans)}], Blue Basket Girl, the 43Things folks, and my kids.

Congratulations Spyrunner! You finished ahead of schedule :) I would love to hear your order in French from a Quebec McDonalds ;)

The McDonald's in Quebec have two lines, one for French and one for English. The French line is always shorter, but if you don't speak perfectly they pretend they have no idea what you are saying. You know you are fluent if they serve you food in the French check-out.

Have you tried yet? Why would they be so inconsiderate? Most people are happy when someone attempts to learn their language. I would still love to hear, (see) what your order would would be :) Really, How different could it possibly be? Isn't a Big Mac still a Big Mac?

The reason might be because I know that you love to share Russian culture with our Duolingo community. Or perhaps I request your help because I feel that you are such an entertaining fellow ;) Once again, Thank you Theron :)

I really should learn Spanish, but Italian seems to be calling me.

Strengthening my tree doesn't seem to be as exciting as working to complete it.

    Follow the call....

A few years ago, I'd say do Spanish. Now, I wouldn't be able to choose between the two.
I'd say that Spanish would be a good basis for beginning language learning and pronunciation, but as you have already done french, you're pretty used to (in my opinion) confusing pronunciation. French, Spanish, and Italian are fairly close, but after learning all three I'd have to say Spanish is the odd one out. And if you learn Italian it will be easier to understand Spanish, but not the other way around. Anyway, congratulations, and whatever you decide to do next, good luck :)
    {also, I'd personally recommend trying a reverse tree and seeing how far you would get. And laddering. Laddering is fun.}

    November 20, 2016

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Spyrunner

Is laddering is learning a lesson from several languages before going to the next one?

    November 20, 2016

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/thesamm72

Laddering would be like learning Italian from French.

How does Esperanto fit into the mix?

    November 20, 2016

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/thesamm72

Esperanto is a constructed language created to be easier for language learners. It supplies one or more aspects from all language families. Its intention was to be a worldwide language. For example, if someone from Russia wanted to speak with someone from England, they would each learn Esperanto as it is easier to learn than Russian or English. It is a very easy language to grasp.

I also have finished my French tree and am showing 55% fluency and Level 13. What next? I see some people here on level 21, 25 etc. How do I progress?

    November 15, 2016

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Maiyeuthuong

You have finished your French tree with 55% Fluency and level 13. You should strengthen each skill again. Maybe most of your skill are in "Overdue" now. Duolingo's algorithms figure out when you should practice words to get them into your long-term memory. I am studying a half of French tree only, but my level now is Level 14 and 51 % fluency. I often practice my skill again, when the red colour appears on my skill icon.

Thank you. I have been strengthening the skills daily every time they have changed colour from gold. The last couple of days they have stopped changing.

Congratulations on finishing your tree. I've been strengthening my tree since I completed it, but I feel like I need to keep moving forward. I'm thinking of starting another language.
