Sentence incorrect in present simple

In English, "the child asks the officer how many people he has arrested" is ambiguous. We may assume that the officer was likely doing the arresting, but grammatically it is possible that the child could have as well. Does the original Danish sentence have the same ambiguity?

The child asks - is perfectly fine in English and is a correct translation.
