If there are any spanish speakers here, I think "astăzi" is like "el día de hoy" and "azi" like "hoy". Can anyone confirm?

That seems to make sense... Compare to French "aujourd'hui" (au + jour + d' + hui = at the day of {today?}). Though in French, one cannot simply say "hui" (which I assume comes from Latin "hodie" for "today")...

Hui was used in Old French, but it has been totally replaced with "aujourd'hui"
