Does anyone know of documentaries in German?

I like to watch documentaries in English, things you might find on PBS, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any German documentaries. If you do I'd love to hear about them.

Danke :)

There are tons on Youtube. Just search "doku."

Alternatively, ZDF has free documentaries on their website. I'd recommend https://www.zdf.de/dokumentation/die-deutschen on German history. There are two whole seasons of documentaries!

If you like watching the news, try heute.de . For satirical news (think German 'The Daily Show') try https://www.zdf.de/comedy/heute-show .

If you have netflix and change your language to German under "My Account" -> "My Profile" then lots of documentaries will now have German audio option enabled.

Hi, this is a good source, some of the documentaries there are great, some are less great, but overall, you might find something interesting.

If you are into math (and even if you're just not against math :-) I would recommend this series:

it's spoken in a nice clear german and you will learn some interesting things along the way.

Have fun :-)

Yes, lots :)

They tend to run on state-financed television, which doesn't have to care as much about number of viewers who can be advertised to. For example, the "PHOENIX" channel in German regularly broadcasts documentaries about things such as the icebergs of Greenland or the animals of the Sahara or the history of the French Revolution.

I don't know of any documentaries, but you might try watching German cartoons, if that's your thing. I would recommend "Peppa Pig". It's easy to understand because of the context.

The best German one I like to watch is: Quarks & co.

Heh. Not exactly a documentary, but if you want something funny and short to watch in German, look up "German Forklift Safety Video". It's hilarious. =P

The name of the legitimate video is "Forklift Driver Klaus English Subtitles", but I think there may be one without subtitles if you wanted the full German experience.
