why is “iar” translated as “and” – doesn't it mean “but”?

Why previously these are bits and these are girls was astia sunt baieti asta sunt fete. Now the answer is Acestia sunt baieti acestia sunt fete. Why the difference to the same question

I don't know, but from a couple native speakers' comments I gather that it can be considered disrespectful to use ăștia/asta (?) so maybe this is better?
