Thanks davidcwalls!

QUESTION

Do you plan to synchronize vocabulary progress between Duolingo and Tinycards (it seemed like that happened for the German course)? In the same vein, will you be creating all of the Duolingo languages in Tinycards, or is it worthwhile for us to come up with a mechanism to collaborate among users to create them?**

ANSWER

We might synchronize your Duolingo and Tinycards vocabulary in the future, but it's not in our plans right now for a couple reasons. First, the Tinycards and Duolingo courses are slightly different, and keeping them synchronized is complicated, especially since we're experimenting with new versions of the Duolingo course every day. The Duolingo course doesn’t translate directly to a good set of flashcards, and it took a lot of manual effort on our part to craft the Tinycards course. Second, we're still working on adding new game mechanics to Tinycards, similar to XP, lingots, and streaks on Duolingo. Some of these mechanics might work differently from the ones on Duolingo, and it would add design complexity to both apps if reviewing a card on Tinycards invisibly gave you XP on Duolingo (or the other way around).

While we don't have a two-way sync right now, when you sign in to Tinycards for the first time we do a one-time import of your Duolingo course progress. This is so that you don't have to spend time re-learning hundreds of words that you already know, and can skip ahead to the decks that matter to you. This is probably what you noticed with the German course.

We plan on adding Tinycards decks for all Duolingo courses, but adding and proofreading those decks takes a lot of time, which is why we're prioritizing them by the number of learners on Duolingo.

Hi, thanks you for creating Tinycards. I am a software developer, and I know you put a lot of efforts into it. thanks a lot. I am using Tinycards for studying German now, I think it's great. I just would to suggest that you add a "search" feature for user's vocabulary. For example, when I write in German, and I can't remember one German word, but I remember some clues (it could be in German or English), so I would like to find the German word using these clues. I used Ankie when I studied English, and I can search for words using "Tag". I think TinyCards will become the best if it support this feature. Again, thanks you alot

This definitely didn't happen for me the first time I signed into Tinycards, and it seems like it still won't. Is there any way to reactivate this initial import?

Like Ontalor, I wasn't given that opportunity either. As someone who is over half way through the French course, I feel deterred to continue with Tinycards knowing that I must first work my way through all of the exercises.

Whilst I understand a two-way sync has its technical difficulties, I would love to be able to import my current progress like the app should have done.

Same thing here. I wish there were an option, because I really don't feel like spending hours upon hours on words I know until the site starts to become useful. If they somehow manage to add this import option they're unbeatable!

When will the various courses be updated? The French and Spanish tree has changed but the tinycards deck has not, I find it a little inconvenient as I use tinycards to recap my vocab

Is there a way on TinyCards to report a card that is missing from the deck, that appears in the corresponding Duolingo course? I really like TinyCards, and I would like to add the few missing words that I encounter.

hmm, I missed the first one time sync :( Is it possible to repeat it somehow? Do I have to delete my tinyflash card account and then sign in again?

Hello! The Tinycards team has started an experiment that essentially lets you pick specific words from Duolingo that you want to practice in Tinycards, so you don't have to do all of the vocabulary in a course. We'll be posting updates on the experiment in this thread: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/28395815

This would have been a good chance for you to update us on the status of Tinycards fot platforms that the majority of users use.
