Hej alla!

I have seen "dom" used instead of "de" several times already, in what seems to be colloquial Swedish (e.g. the song Dom andra by Kent). I know that's how it's pronounced, but I have never seen it on Duolingo, for example.

Is it used frequently in colloquial language, or is it rather rare to write it this way?

Tack för svaret :) Zelva

It's very common in colloquial writing, both because of its pronunciation and since people have trouble separating de and dem.

I imagine dom will eventually take over completely, but who knows? :)

In the course, it's supposed to be an accepted answer everywhere, although there are probably still places where we haven't added it yet. We're working on that, keep reports coming.

HOWEVER in the listen and type exercises, no spelling variation is accepted because of how the machinery works, so in those, unfortunately you cannot type dom. As you can imagine, there are just too many sentences with de or dem so we can't turn off the dictation exercises for every single one of them.

Tack för din svar, Arnauti :) I have never tried entering it as an answer. But it's interesting to know it works.

I prefer to use Dom when I'm chatting and texting. In all other I use de and dem. Since de and dem correspond (almost) exactly to they and them it's actually very easy to distinguish them.
