When did you first try Immersion?
How did you decide you were ready for it, and how did you start? Is it silly for someone who's only been on duolingo for 3 weeks to give it a try?
It is not silly. It can be a headache, just do what you can. Start with small sentences at first, like the end credits, titles. Pick subjects you like. Do one and two sentence paragraphs.
Do not try to long at once, stick with little short bursts. Five, ten minutes.
Don't feel guilty about using a translator or dictionary, you are here to learn and those are good tools to use.
PS It can be discouraging and some people just don't do it. Its your world.
Thanks for the encouragement! I just translated a paragraph! It was really hard to just type what I thought the Spanish said and not to try to edit the original article, but I think I did okay.
I started doing Immersion from Day one, but my day one was a year ago. Duolingo has subsequently stopped encouraging users from using it from their first day.
Note that even today, Immersion is always available, no matter what level you are.
I believe that some of the low-level Duolingo users felt overwhelmed with immersion, so Duolingo has stopped active encouragement of immersion for early users.
P.S. I always felt that I was getting something out of immersion no matter what my level was at the time. I don't spend a lot of time on immersion as I'm still working through my tree, but when I see an interesting article, I spend some time translating.
