Why is the article "the" omitted in Romanian? Wouldn't it be "Nu este piper în supa"?

The rule in Romanian is that a noun drops the definite article if it is preceded by a preposition (except "cu"!), unless the noun is qualified by one or more following words. E.g.: "Nu este piper în supă". But: "Nu este piper în supa mea". I hope this helps!
