There are so many problems with Duolingo, it's ridiculous!
On the Duolingo website, my French flirting skill has been at its golden status for at least the last 300 or so days. On the Android app, for whatever reason, it cannot become golden, no matter what. This has been incredibly frustrating in the past, in trying to achieve a golden skill tree, when I have repeatedly tried to strengthen the flirting skill without avail.
Today I lost my 343/344 day streak even though I certainly reached my goal by obtaining 50 xp yesterday. It reset to a one day streak on the app without apparent reason when I began to do my daily Duolingo ritual this morning.
There are an incredible number of exercises which either have inherent problems or are not instructive in the case of getting the exercise incorrect.
The website here is cumbersome to follow and search. There is no way, as far as I can tell, to search discussion titles--only every word ever said in the forums.
In hardly any time, the only things left to buy in the Duolingo store are wagers and streak freezes; after buying the two dumb owl costumes and very few bonus skills, Lingots become essentially meaningless.
I have never been successful in obtaining technical support via the app, though I have attempted on numerous occasions.
They update the app regularly, but where are the technical fixes? Every week it seems there is some unnecessary cosmetic update when there are so many other obvious problems that should have taken priority!
How many other problems are there...? There are numerous. Just today I changed my username, but if I click on my out-of-date Duolingo username on a discussion post, I get 404'd rather than redirected. How many times will the Duolingo voice recognition not recognize certain words even though you say them perfectly? It really is getting ridiculous and even though I love the Duolingo concept, the website, the app and the exercises need some serious work!
Before I try and help you, I want to say one thing (please don't take offense, though, I apologize in advance if I seem offensive): Make sure you remember the people who pour hours and hours, many volunteers, to make this site good. Everyone can't be perfect; they're trying their best. Here we go with answering your questions: About the strengthening skills problem, try going in to the skill then strengthening it directly from there. You can't do much about your streak except submit a bug report, but next time, make sure you have a Streak Freeze just in case. If there's ever a problem within a lesson, make sure to hit the 'Report Problem' button. Lingots are mostly just a source of pride. However, you could give them to people who post a good post or to beginners who want to get Bonus Skills. Again, sorry I am coming off as offensive, but I'm trying my best, and don't forget, so is the staff and moderators. :)
The app is really awful.
That is why I only use Duolingo in the browser Firefox for tablet (7 inch screen, android) and smartphone (5 inch screen, android). And this is rather doing fine.
The didactic method of Duolingo is dubious. But for me it is the only language program I like to do every day. And you get it for free!
(Please feel free to correct my English, because it is not my native language)
It's true that Duolingo, just like everything in this world, is not perfect. Everyone experiences problems and you just have to learn to live with it sometimes. I'm sorry that you lost your streak( very frustrating) and that the app is glitching ( also frustrating) but you kind of just have to let it be. The developers are working their hardest ( I hope) to improve the site and I highly doubt that Duo wants their site to be getting worse.
"I have never been successful in obtaining technical support via the app, though I have attempted on numerous occasions."
I agree with you and I think this is big problem since they are pushing the app over the website.
"Just today I changed my username, but if I click on my out-of-date Duolingo username on a discussion post, I get 404'd rather than redirected. "
I believe that the name will eventually sync and remove your old name in all your posts.
Though I do occasionally see names in the Discussion list but when you click on the discussion itself it says [deactivated] or something like that. I'm not sure if that was intentional in the design.
Even paid apps have such problems, duolingo is surprisingly well made for a free app.
I am having problems with the German course. I can’t make progress because it counts so many of my translations as incorrect when they are correct and I lose all my lives and have to wait until the next day when it does it again and I am so frustrated that there appears to be nowhere to report bugs. I have screen shots of the errors it makes. I keep clicking on the report. To report the errors with the system and it still keeps doing it.
