Swedish pronunciation - help

Hi everybody

I have started learning Swedish. Even though I can memorise the meaning and spelling of the words, I have no idea how one can correctly pronounce the words. Swedish pronunciation seems to be difficult. Some times "k" sounds like "sh", or individual words sound differently when I hear them in a sentence. Is there any rules? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you very much!

This introduction is exceptionally good. Especially try the videos 2, 3, 4, 5 and if you don't feel strong with specific topics, watch the rest. And as for any language, classic Wikipedia's IPA for... (as a summary/review, even if you don't know the International Phonetic Alphabet, you should be introduced to these symbols in the videos) and phonology. The phonology for Swedish is one of the best so I highly recommend reading it. And don't worry, you can skip some of the paragraphs when you start feeling like you don't understand it. It also has a lot of audio samples. If you don't feel very strong with the IPA, you can skip all the technical paragraphs and only look at the tables with audio.

Great suggestion! I have posted my question on Swedish from english forum. Since I would like to keep your answer, I was wondering if you can copy your answer on the Swedish forum so that I can delete this discussion from the french forum. Thanks!

You don't need to delete the post. Just edit it and change the forum. You should have such option when you click "Edit".

The reason this is getting downvoted is because it is in the French for English Speakers Forum.

Try moving it to the Swedish For English Speakers Forum For more help :)

I tried that but it seems that I only have french and German options to choose from. I do not know why! I try again and see if I can find a way.
