That's their fault, not Italian's :P English speakers at some point disused their word "Ened" (Old English, cognate to the modern German "Ente") and instead started using "to duck" as a noun (cognate to modern German "tauchen", to dive, to plunge). Spanish speakers instead currently use "pato", derived from the Arabic "batt". The Italian "Anatra" is a deformation of the Latin "anas", gen. "anatis".
