Is decameter and hectometer common length units in Romanian? I've never heard of it before being used in English...

Me neither ... I'm a 48 year old Brit and both are new to me! :)

Well I can't speak for Romania, but here in France we use those units, most of the time at school, to convert one unit to another for example(Same for the weights, btw. Décagramme, hectogrammes, etc...). We also have a tool to measure length and it is called 'décamètre'.

No, they are only used in schools, not in real life.

alternative spellings should be accepted: in British English, "metru" is "metre" Therefore hectometre should not be rejected.

I reported for "millimetre, decametre, hectometre".

May I say that practising these words is silly? No one ever uses these secondary units of length outside of a primary school maths lesson.
As for the ones really used (millimetre, centimetre, metre, kilometre), you hardly need to learn them in a special skill, just use them as filling words in any other skill. I will venture to say that many Duolingo users will be able to guess that milimetru=millimetre.

Anybody know how many metres in a hectometre?

Milli- = 1/1000; Centi- = 1/100; Deci- = 1/10; Deca- = 10; Hecto- = 100; Kilo- = 1000

One hectometer is equivalent to 100 meters. It's pretty self-explanatory.

Heck! No!

There are 100 metres in a hectometre

100 metres
