I would have used "Mănâncă din mijlocul mărului". They are pretty close.

din is more like from within, from inside. It can also mean of/out of: Gardul e din lemn. -- The fence is made of wood.; A câştigat patru din zece. -- He won four out of ten.

de la is just from.
