Does the Greek word for "bus" (λεωφορείο) have any connection with the word for "avenue" (λεωφόρος), or do they share a similar origin somehow? For example, in the past, a tram (old type of bus) would go along straight tracks in the road, and avenues are often straight roads. Or is there no connection at all?

ο λεώς is Attic (Ancient Greek) dialect for ο λαός "the people".

φέρνω is "bear, carry".

So I suppose both λεωφορείο and λεωφόρος are "people-carriers" in some way.
