Slow and getting slower! (posted 2/24/2014)

Duolingo has become very slow in the past few weeks and is getting slower, especially when I "check" my answer or when I try to go to discussions pages. It is slow on both Chrome and Firefox but at least on Firefox the sound is okay, whereas in Chrome the sound is very choppy (or scratchy?) and hard to understand! I have loved Duolingo and rave about it to family and friends but at this point I am getting very discouraged.

Have you recently restarted your browsers? We monitor our response times closely and haven't see any change in our grading or comment thread response times.

Yes, I have. I do it every day. I never leave browsers open when not in use and have set them up to delete all browsing data (history, caches, etc.) -- which can slow down the performance, if kept around -- when closing.

I'm sorry to hear that the website isn't responsive for you. A coworker and I both impersonated your account and tried viewing the discussion forums, starting sessions, and doing a few challenges in each lesson. It worked without any speed issues for us, so there doesn't seem to be anything specific about your account that is making those features slow.

Clearing your cache every time will work against some things we do in order to make the website more responsive.

Thanks for investigation my problem. Could you please say more about what you mean by "Clearing your cache every time will work against some things we do in order to make the website more responsive." ?

To be sure I am clear: I do not clear the cache while I am logged in. I clear it when I am done with my session and am closing the browser.
