"I buy a ring for my wife."

Translation:Eu cumpăr un inel pentru soția mea.

Could I use the datie case here?

Îi cumpăr un inel soţiei mele. (?)


That is a valid Romanian sentence. But, while it conveys the same meaning, there's a more direct English translation "I buy my wife a ring." So I guess the question is how far can you drift from the original structure as long as you keep the meaning.
