Huge funding cuts to Gaeltacht for the young
I just came across this news article. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-38422550
There was also a news headline this year of a major cut in funding for Cornish. It is an absolute crying shame that we don't do more to protect the languages that embody the rich heritage of the British Isles & Ireland.
I might be wrong to say this but from my understanding of Irish and English history. Funding Irish to be taught to children from both North and Southern Ireland is so important in creating a joined sense of identity across the whole of Ireland.
Agreed. It's so disappointing to hear that stormont are cutting the funding to vital services to people of disadvantaged backgrounds when they squandered 400million.
-Just realized I spelled stormont as storming... oh dear
-And I said billion instead of million...
Just for completeness, the Irish Times is reporting that this funding cut has been restored in the last few days, perhaps in an attempt to avert the current crisis in the Northern Ireland Executive.
