s´il vous plait

´si´ is ´íf´ so what is s´il vous plait then? Is it: if you would please me? please help me i need that as a homework and i have no idea if that is right or not.

It just means please. Literally, it means "if it pleases you." So to break it down: si = if; il = it; vous = you (In French, object pronouns come before the verb); plaît = from plaire "to please"


if it to you is pleasing you can also say 's'il te plaît' to a young person or family member.
