Translation:This cup will be held in France.

This championship game will happen in France. ?

This is not English. Perhaps "This World Cup game will be in France"? Or "the next World Cup Game will be in France"? I'm really surprised that the Greek κύπελλο isn't capitalized...

Yes, I suppose you're right!

Will happen in France ??

No, "happen" does not fit in this sentence.

Hi Jaye I am a bit confused LenaKoutis asked "This championship game will happen in France. ?" You replied "Yes, that is one of the alternatives."

Have I got the wrong end of the stick

Wow, that is a huge error on my part. "Happen" is not correct and was not even two years ago when I sent that answer. I can only imagine that I was concentrating on the use of "championship game" as a substitute for "cup". I'll delete my reply.

Many thanks, Jon for catching that and informing me. I will delete it now.

This championship will be happening in France?

We don't use "happen" with "games/matches etc" We say "take place/be held"

Hi! Should "This cup is going to take place in France" be accepted?

Yes, thank you I've added it.

Great, thank you!

How can a cup be an event? Cup tournament, cup final, yes, but a cup is an object.

Yes, I found it hard to understand but some research showed that that is how it is expressed.

World Cup - yes. That's a tournament. But a Cup, on its own, as an event? - I'm going to the World Cup final. (yes) - I'm going to the cup. (Never heard it).
