Is the Greek course Koine Greek or just modern Greek
Is the Greek course Koine Greek or just modern Greek? There is for example popcorn!
Ancient greek would have been fantastic to learn. Just as you can learn Latin. Koine (common) were spoken after the death of Alexander the Great. It is very close to modern Greek. Ancient Greek is very interesting because it contains a richer vocabulary and more complex words. Most of those words got '' latinised'' and became the Latin that we know now.
I wouldn't agree that Ancient Greek has a richer vocabulary and more complex words than Modern Greek. A more complex conjugation system, maybe...
what version of Greek is taught here (like why would anyone think it's anything else than modern Greek?), not what is better/worse
and when was I rude?
Maybe I am rude, who knows... Forget the rude part .I was pointing out that the Greek language can have two different lessons the '' ''modern'' and the '' ancient.''
There has been some discussion both in Duolingo and in reddit about starting a course on ancient Greek and/or Koine Greek.
I think most of these people, like me, are interested in reading Greek classics in original language, at least partially, or to compare the translation with the original. And "they" are starting a course on Klingon which is a fictional language and supposed to be even more ancient than ancient Greek. I don't have anything against modern Greek. I don't think it's an either or. I am not against Klingon either. ευχαριστώ
