I need some help to say "Happy new year" to a Polish friend tonight

Hello everyone,

I have registered on this website and have been practicing a little bit but not lately.

Tonight, I would like to say "Happy new year" to a friend in Polish, but I have no idea how to say it and how to pronounce it. Could anyone help?

I can read the phonetic alphabet.

Thank you so much for your help and happy new year everyone!

Oh my gosh that's a mouthful! Anyways, to help you pronounce it, here is a link where it is pronounced slowly: http://www.pronounceitright.com/pronunciation/szczesliwego-nowego-roku-6063

I personally always loved this video and I would always show it to foreign volunteers coming to Warsaw:

I guess it's kind of too late but maybe it will be helpful for the next time. There are very few sources where you can find phonetic transcriptions, sadly. Here's what I try when I need one:

  1. Usually when there is an IPA transcription on the internet, it's on Wiktionary.

  2. Sometimes there isn't one on the English Wiktionary so it can be useful to check the one in the target language. In this case you could actually find it.

  3. If that doesn't work, try searching in google for [phrase] "ipa". (you can find phrases like that here )

How did it go? :) If you ever need the pronunciation of Polish phrases again, I'll be happy to help.

Gerardd88, it went well last night and I managed to make myself understood and to make my friend smile ;) Thank you so much for the useful information and the time devoted to answering.

For the future another good resource would be Google translate. Both the Android app and the web site will not only translate but also pronounce it for you (just click on the speaker). For single words and common phrases it's very good.
