Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

Lingots for immersion translations - one problem

Well, more than one, but the main thing is that if you do much translation, those lingot notifications you receive can bump more important notifications (like discussion replies) off the 5-notification stack accessed by the bell icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

Yes, I know I can access ALL notifications on my email, but the email account I have linked to Duolingo is one I rarely use.

Second problem is simple economics: when a thing is plentiful, its value is cheapened. Lingots used to be special, dazzling ruby jewels for achievement beyond the ordinary. Now they're just shiny flecks of mylar. I don't think giving lingots for translation work will be beneficial (but of course maybe Duolingo's metrics may contradict this belief!). --- Ricaloca
