Fun fuct: In Cyprus we only use φλιτζάνι for both cup and mug. Κούπα in Cyprus is a minced meat delicacy

Υπάρχει μία διαφορά ανάμεσα στη λέξη "κούπα" και τη λέξη "φλιτζάνι";

The way I know it is:

φλιτζάνι cup as for tea or coffee would usually have a πιατάκι saucer

κούπα mug

ποτήρι glass

Hope that helps.

Ναι, αυτό με βοηθάει πολύ. Ευχαριστώ.

What is the defining criterion of ποτήρι as opposed to κούπα or φλιτζάνι? Is it a matter of material or shape or both?

A ποτήρι is a glass, a φλιτζάνι is a cup the kind with a saucer and κούπα is a mug. There might be some overlapping. I'd suggest googling them and checking out the images.

I just noticed that I replied to this a year ago we should both learn to read the comments before posting. :-)

Jaye16 your description is helpful, even great, but duolingo still calls κούπα a cup...both in this exercise and in hints elsewhere.

There are some images of mugs on Google Images when typing "cup" into the search box, however.

Hi Bill, Jaye16 is right but κούπα can also be 'cup', as well as 'mug': https://www.wordreference.com/gren/κούπα

Similar to English, where a mug can be referred to as a 'cup'.

My mind went to playing cards...Isn't κούπα the name of a suit in playing cards? Therefore, shouldn't "It is not my heart" be correct?

Now if that isn't thinking outside the box. Well done. I'm adding "heart" as a translation. Thank you.

I wrote γούπα instead of κούπα, it gave no correction.

Are you positive it didn't even underline the "κ"?
