Dwoić się i troić

What does this expression mean in English? And how would one use it correctly in a Polish sentence?

Thanks in advance

„Dwoić się i troić" means to double and triple oneself and is used to signify that someone is putting a great effort to do something.

Choć się dwoiliśmy i troiliśmy to nie zdążyliśmy przed przyjazdem ciotki.

It means to be very busy doing something, put much effort into it. I'd say that it's used mostly to show a dissapointment or to complain about something hard to., like in these sentences: "Można dwoić się i troić, i tak się nie uda." "Dwoił się i troił i nic z tego nie wyszło." But using it to say, that someone is very dedicated to some work is also correct, like in: "Sprzedawcy dwoją się i troją, żeby sprostać oczekiwaniom klientów".
