My progress so far
So this year I have made french a goal my family is french but my mom never taught me I have gone 32 days straight so far for an hour a day and wow the results are amazing!
Good job, keep it up! Just so you know, Duolingo is definitely not going to get anyone fluent in a language. There is an advantage if you and your family are French though. I am also taking French classes in school, and will be for 5 more years. Even that, will not get anyone fluent. That is why, when i`m done with classes and Duolingo, I want to go to a French speaking place. I have heard that once you are in the French environment, and you are almost fluent, you will become fluent easily. Go to my chat called ' How to Actually get Fluent in a Language?'
I concur with this. I moved to a Spanish speaking country 20 years ago (I am Canadian, English native and 7 years of French in school). I was conversational in 3 months and reached functional fluency within 6 months. I got a job as an interpreter with an international company less than 3 years in country, and I still do that till this day, although now I am a conference interpreter and do simultaneous interpretation. I never had any lessons in Spanish, I learned from television and immersion in a country where there was little English at the time in my working environment (restaurant kitchen).
Here I am struggling to recall those 7 years of school French, I do more strengthening than tree lessons now after 8 days in.
