347 day streak lost

Yesterday and toady I received notification that I had lost my 347 day streak and invited to pay circa £8 to reinstate my unbroken streak which I declined as I have not missed a session, has it been a software/server problem?

Some time back I did the exercise to protect my streak if I missed one day, which I have not

I am very disappointed can you please help

Don't worry, we've got you covered.

Our site and apps have been unreliable due to overwhelming traffic – we've been working around the clock to resolve the issue and we're terribly sorry for the inconvenience caused. It's been a crazy few days over here!

While I can't give you an exact time, I can assure you that we will restore ALL streaks to their former glory. Our first priority is getting the site and apps 100% stable, then we will make sure all streaks and lingots are restored.

Thank you for your patience – it's a humbling problem to have more people than our site can handle!

If you switch between the mobile app and the website, occasionally discrepancies can arise and render your streak nullified. I am quite sorry for your misfortune, however. That was quite an impressive streak. =(

The three most common reasons for this are:

  • you're working on a phone or a tablet, and your phone / tablet hasn't been able to synchronise its data with the server.

  • your daily target is set to more XP than you did yesterday.

  • you've travelled across timezones, and Duolingo's using the time zone you travelled from.

The first is the most likely - that your mobile device hasn't synchronised.

It's always a good idea to buy a streak freeze if you care about your streak, and to check every now and then that it's still active. It's also a good idea to check that your phone / tablet has synchronised with the server.

I don't know how to help you, other than recommend that you contact a staff member, but here's some lingots for your troubles. :)

Weird, as the exact same thing happened with me. 2 days ago I got a streak freeze, but still did my exercises. I saw some glitches but thought my internet was a bit slow. Yesterday, it didn't reflect the exercises I did the day before, so I did them again. Now today my streak is gone..., back to 0.... Something's is not right on their servers.

Careful about paying to get your streak back. I was traveling and must have only completed 1 lesson a few days back as opposed to my normal 3. I love the program so much that I decided 5 bucks to keep my streak 92 day streak alive was totally cool. I rationalized it as 1) the program is free and awesome 2) I did practice that day. I was charged but my streak was not repaired and so far duolingo has not responded to my emails about it. :( with all the chaos that happened yesterday I'm giving them a few more days to respond.

I've just lost a long streak myself. I wasn't using a streak freeze. I wasn't changing timezones. I wasn't switching between desktop and mobile. I didn't have a daily XP goal set. I did clear my cache on one of the two machines through which I usually access the site, and somehow this seems to have caused it to forget the lesson I definitely completed yesterday on a different machine. Naturally, all the help info is about the error I'm presumed to have made.

Everyone has a daily XP goal set, whether or not you know what it is. Have a loot in the coach section of your settings.

It's quite possible something has gone wrong, but there's no way that clearing the cache on your computer could cause some servers on a different continent to forget data they'd held.

The most likely cause of losing a streak is that on the one hand, as you've said, you didn't have a streak freeze in place, and on the other hand the "other machine" you mention might have had problems communicating with the servers.

It's quite possible that you haven't made any mistake at all. If we're going to help you, though, we have to be allowed to consider all the possibilities, including that there's something you'd misunderstood.

I don't have any daily XP goal set - or perhaps it's a default minimum which isn't displayed on the settings page, which would be rather poor UI design:

I've a topic of my own here: It looks like the problem was that the lesson I completed didn't update my streak, which another user is seeing too: Looks likely to be an issue with the servers, so I hope Duolingo will be restoring streaks for people affected.

Did they ever resolve it for you? I just lost a 115 :(

I lost a 243 two weeks ago because of a system glitch that was never reinstated. I'm trying to work back up the motivation to start again. =/

ive just lost my 470 day streak just because i was late getting home, i only do mine on my desk top, the streak before that was about 350 then i went on holiday and lost that, i think its best to miss one day a week so you never get to care about your streak as it only ever reaches six

Try submitting a bug report with a screen shot. Look under Notifications. It should have your streak stats. Take a pic and send it in. Worked for me when I lost 230 days.
