Daily XP counter doesn't work
Duolingo is having major issues apparently. Immersion is gone, it is VERY slow, and worst of all, the daily counter isn't updated. After completing a timed lesson, it starts counting from -20 to 0 :( This could of course lead to people losing their streaks, which is very unfortunate, indeed. Make sure you purchase a streak freeze, so that doesn't happen to you. In case anybody is short of lingots, for whatever reason, I have quite a lot of them, and can help you out :)

Also noticed this - had dinner at 20/50 came back to continue and didn't notice it had stopped counting up till I'd completed another 2 lessons, it limped up another after doing one more but has stuck at 30/50 after at least 9 lessons completed. 3 days into a streak - not happy! am finishing now and it's going to be recorded as a fail!
Have you tried to set the daily goal to 10, temporarily? This should keep your streak, shouldn't it?
I had enough yesterday so didn't reset the goal :o), having come back today, I reset it to 30 (to give myself a break) and so far so good. Hopefully it's sorted now, thanks for all the suggestions through the thread though.
I'm having some problems with this too. I used to always use immersion, until I noticed today that it was gone. Except my counter froze at 18. No problem? Well you don't have your goal set to 50. This especially effects me because I run the Junior Streak Hall of Fame 2.5.2, and I'm going to have a lot of work tomorrow, deleting all of the streaks that may have ended unfairly. While I do not need any lingot donation, I am aware of a problem where your streak freeze might not work on the day that you buy it, leading to streaks ending anyway. While it is possible to get your streak revived, it is only with special approval from the administrators.
The fact that these 2 problems have occurred at the same time is a major inconvenience, and it might just get people to quit Duolingo. Please do not if you are thinking about it. Duolingo is fun and you should never let a minor inconvenience stop you. I am sorry for all of the streaks that will inevitably be lost, but every language learning learning site has its flaws, and you can't expect a not-for-profit to be perfect.
I managed to get one lesson done just before midnight, and set the coach to 1 XP :) I was fine anyway, since I have a streak freeze for these occasions ;) Don't want to think about loosing the streak, so close to 1.000 days, that's for sure :D
I lost a 302 day streak because of this. Not best pleased. Does anyone know if they're are going to redress this?
Yes, I'm glad that Duolingo followed through on this. There were a lot of disappointed people.
The same thing is happening on mine. I have a 125 day streak that I am hoping is not broken from this tech issue. Can someone from the Duolingo team please confirm that they are working on this?
I wouldn't count on it, purchase a streak freeze from the Lingot store, so you're safe until tomorrow.
I am experiencing the same frustration. I have lots of lingots as well. Perhaps they will fix it before the day ends. Very slow.
And what does everyone suppose will happen to those of us that lost their streaks? I kinda only have time for duo late in the evening, usually 10-15 minutes before the counter resets, and because of this bug (or whatever) I lost my streak. It wasn't very large to begin with, but seeing that flame at 0 makes me lose motivation to learn...

hi the same thing has happened to me ive tried setting it to 10 xp and it just takes it back to 0 i have purchased a freeze streak but i only have 3 lingots left im trying to get a 100 day streak as im in a competition with my class and it would be great to be able to beat them. hopefully they sort this out soon because i really dont have enough lingots to continue on. anybody who is willing to donate some lingots i would really appreciate it thanks guys' its good to know im not the only one experiencing problems from duolingo.

Yes, this has happened to me, and it also says that I've lost my streak wager. Hopefully it can be restored once they get it figured out.
I experienced that also - Chrome counts from minus to zero, Explorer just skips the recording of the XPs.
Hi all, I've also had the counter go backwards tonight. It's also been the slowest its ever been for me. Lastly none of my lessons have added up XP wise...............
I am experiencing the same problems: Site very slow. Only credits me for two lessons - keeps giving me 20 points only regardless of how many lessons I do. Signing off for today unfortunately. Hope it is fixed soon.
Problem exists across platforms. I've tried android and chrome - no difference. Complete lesson, see 10 points, see zero points. At least I've done a bunch of extra lessons!
If you are doing timed lessons, you can earn up to 20 XPs, hence the counter started there :)

Today for the first time I too didn't get credit for the 3 activities I did, only one. Why do I have to purchase a streak freeze? Can't this be fixed? I may switch to another program if it isn't.
You don't have to purchase a streak freeze, of course. But in case you're trying to maintain a long streak, it might be a good idea. I'm approaching 1000 days, as you can see, and I would be extremely unhappy losing it due to technical problems ;)
I did 50XP worth of practice today, but only 30XP registered. My Spanish Group said what lessons I did, but the counter only registered 3 of the 5.
I have the same thing happening for me but it doesn't affect me. I have been trying to keep my streak going but for me just knowing that I have been on everyday and am doing my lessons is enough. I don't really know why streak is such an issue especially for people with like a two day streak.
This is also happening to me two, but it's been going on for THREE days now. I'm lucky I can purchase Streak freezes, but this has to be fixed and quickly.
It has been working for me twice over the years, and I haven't seen any comments that it doesn't work. So it's fairly to assume it actually does work :)
This happened to me twice today. I did two practice sessions and it subtracted 20xp. Didn't want to lose my streak, so I redid two previous lessons and received 20xp. After a third practice session, it gave me 10 more xp. I'm wondering if there's any way to get the 20xp it dropped. Really odd because my % learned increased during those first two practices. Thanks for your insight!
I had this problem too but I found out the problem. I'm using the Chrome web browser (on a Chromebook) and I turned off all of my ad blocking and privacy extensions and then the counter worked properly.

My XP showed that it had counted and that I'd completed my daily streak, this was 360 days but now it shows that my XP didn't count and I've lost my hard earned streak. I'd really love this problem to be resolved as I love using this app and seeing my streak was a huge motivation.

Same issues here, did not recognize that I surpasses my daily XP and not it's midnight, so there goes my streak...
I experienced the same error. I was on a 131 streak, meeting my 50 daily XP going to 132 days. But this morning I was back at 0.
Despite that I had 65 XP yesterday.
I am really sad. I lost my 19 day streak. Exp counter shows 50 exp this week in one place, but other shows only 40 and it doesn't show 20 for yesterday.
I lost 218 day streak because of this issue. It is not that I'm not happy of that, I'm simply pissed of. Is there any way I can get my streak back?
i am having the same issue... reached daily goal, said i got to 76 day streak, got an email a few hours later telling me i hadn't done it. went back into the app and it said i was still at 75 day streak. all of the lessons i had done previously were shown to be completed, however. went through three more lessons to get my streak of 76, took screen shots of reaching 76 day streak. checked this morning and it says i am back down to 75 and has burned my streak freeze. i was NOT having connectivity issues and the app is up to date. incredibly frustrating.
I also had a problem with it not accepting the 10 points each time i did a lesson, but finally got a reading 20 my 20 point goal. I thought I was ok, and went to do today's lessons and discovered I had lost my 275 day streak!! I'm devastated! There is definitely something going on with their system! I submitted a Bug report, but I will probably never get that streak back. I also have a lot of lingots and can help people that need a streak freeze! My daily counter clearly shows that I had met my 20 points goal for yesterday, but it still deleted my streak.
So this is an ongoing problem?
Most here are talking about several different issues with the XP counter. The whole app must be shot.
It was certainly an issue 4 days ago. Everything is back on track now, of course.
you should open a new thread about your existing problem. the problem this thread was started about has been resolved.
I am glad that Mr Kraus understands all of these lingots and stuff to be able to comment on them. I am mystified by the lingots, percentages, 10/30s, streaks and lots of other obscure statistics. What does it all mean, not much I think. But I like the language training and will stick with it!
