I got this sentence on a "write what you hear" exercise, and at first I almost wrote "ευμέριδα" for the last word since that is what the audio sounds like ( [ef.'me.ɾi.ða rather than [e.fi.me.'ɾi.ða] ).

It sounds ok to me, but of course, I knew what to expect. I'll report it but it's not really bad.

"Father had a newspaper" really is wrong?

Yes, that is correct and I've just added it to the incubator. Thank you.

In a "write what you hear" exercise, how can I distinguish between είχε and έχει? The voice sounds the same to me.

They sound very different. "είχε" is "ee" "heh" but "έχει" is "eh" "hee"

type in each word and listen to it. There are also sentences using the word. Listen to each many times. You will get used to the differences.
