Quick Мой vs. Моя question.
I know a similar question has already been asked, but I just want to make sure I completely understand this concept.
Мой or моя depend upon the gender of the noun, not the gender of the person speaking?
It will always be моя гитара even if I, the speaker, am a male?
Thank you in advance! I really appreciate it!
Yes, you're right. Мой is used for male-gendered objects (кот, стол, дом) and моя is used for female-gendered objects (кошка, ложка, гитара). Both males and females use a phrase 'моя гитара' :) So, моё is used for the objects which have a neutral gender (солнце, небо)
That's right. However, note that when you talk about his or her stuff, just like in English, you would follow the gender of the speaker instead: моя гитара, его гитара, ее гитара; мой кот, его кот, ее кот. There's only one word for "his" regardless of the gender of the object, same for "her".
You know an easy way to destinguish between male and female rabbits? You grab it, put in the middle of a field and watch if побежал then it is a he, if побежала then a she?
