Action when the majority of students have misunderstood a word in a translation

When evaluating other responses to translations, it is sometimes evident that the majority of students have misunderstood a word. For instance Fr. imperative verb "gare" ("garer"), meaning "watch out!" or "take care!", has been interpreted as En. noun "station".

It seems harsh to downrate without providing an explanation, but when there are hundreds ...?
