* This week's Leader Extraordinaire!
^ The Hindi, Czech, Swahili, Spanish (for Arabic), & Tamil teams' progress is as per their own calculation
Here's what the contributing teams have said during the last week:
(For Phase-1 and Phase-2 courses by default, and for Phase-3 courses per request).
Slower progress. The Bengali team has been the Leader Extraordinaire for three weeks in a row!
Previous Update 8-Jan to 15-Jan
Last updates from:
2016: Dec, Nov, Oct, Sep, Aug, Jul, Jun, May, Apr, Mar, Feb, Jan
2015: Dec, Nov, Oct, Sep, Aug, Jul, Jun, May, Apr, Mar, Feb, Jan
2014: Dec, Nov, Oct, Sep, Aug, Jul, Jun, May, Apr, Mar, Feb, Jan, 1st.
The PT/FR update translates as:
First of all, happy new year 2017, as well as to your loved ones.
I come bearing news of the course's progress. It's still being verified by Duolingo, and it's been a month. Our team no longer has control until they come back to us (the beta release date is given above...). Usually this phase lasts around a month, so we're almost done. We will keep you up to date.
Also, the link for "Team PT for FR" above the update is wrong, Jiten. It should be https://incubator.duolingo.com/courses/pt/fr/status
I thought I read somewhere that there was supposed to be a major Hindi update in December or January? Either way, thank you for the updates and for your contribution to Duolingo!
Negative progress is still progress. Change in percentage means it's being worked on.
It means they are adding more words overall, which makes the percentage of completed words temporarily go down. It's a good sign in the long run.
Yay Portuguese for French and English for Bengali! Keep up the good work everyone. Thank you for this jitengore!
Enjoying the fourth place display, thanks :-)
Now if only we could hurry it all up and make room for, say, widle's Finnish, or another gift to the English base. (My personal hope would be Slovak, a little easier and IMO more euphonic than Czech.)
Apologies! I was on work related travel last week and my optimistic self had thought that I will be able to create my post before leaving - but I could not do that! :(
Today's (bi)weekly edition will be coming later today. Please stay tuned.
I guess Hindi is not going to launch the 26th? Come on Team keep going! You are empowering the people!
A slower week. I suppose it happens sometimes though. Nice to see progress even if it isn't much.
Back then, English for Thai was at 98%. It's moved 1% in almos a year. That's slow progress!
Similarly Hindi was at 26% (up 2%) and Yiddish at 8% (up 1%). Like you said, that's slow. But I heard from another forum user that Thai is finished and the team has been waiting for the staff to do their thing, probably no longer than a month or two though.
The Swahili team report the percentage progress themselves and only do so when a substantial amount of progress has been made; the percentage typically stays the same for a long time and then jumps a large amount, but this reflects how they report progress rather than the rate of progress itself.
Still, there hasn't even been a "we're alive" post in two months. When last we saw our merry band of course creators, they thought they were close to getting a studio to record the words. Of course, they've got Peace Corps activities going on and they don't owe us an update, but I'm starting to think it will be at least March before the course comes out.
Not that it matters. Pole pole, etc.
Sucks. Hope they find somewhere soon, it must be frustrating for them.
You're an alpha tester, yes? How's the rest of the course looking?
Yes, it has some errors but that's what alpha testing is for :p It's looking good so far, I'm going to try to finish the tree some time soon. The tips and notes on that course are amazing!!
I'll be posting an update today or tomorrow - we are indeed waiting on figuring out recording studio things, which has been the biggest obstacle!
@BrandenRyan Hurray! I am thrilled to hear that Swahili is still actively being worked on!
I wasn't much thinking about it, but until Swahili is ready, it'll be PTFR. It never occurred to me that I'd be able to ladder from a language (French Spanish), but Duo opened up a whole world! Huge thanks :) p.s. 1st post with "25" next to Spanish, estoy super happy!
It seems to me that the Previous Update link leads to a wrong WIU (Dec 18th to Jan 8th instead of the indicated Jan 8th to Jan 15th). Can someone confirm if this is the case for others?
Thank you so much for the difficult work you are doing on the Hindi for English course. I know many people are impatient, which must make it feel like a thankless job. Please know that your effort is truly appreciated. I am very anxious to learn Hindi on Duolingo, but I know that creating the course is a long process that shouldn't be rushed. Thanks again!
